- No. 9 Stanford men’s swimming returns to the pool for the first time in 2026 with a pair of dual meets on Jan. 16 and 17.
- The Cardinal will first face UC San Diego on January 16 at 1 p.m. and then take on No. 18 USC on January 17 at 11 a.m.
- Friday’s clash with the Tritons is the first head-to-head competition between the two programs.
- UC San Diego is 4-2 this season, with both losses coming to DI programs (2-2 overall against DI).
- USC is 3-3 on the year, with two of its three losses coming to top-three teams in the NCAA (Indiana and Arizona State).
- Saturday’s meet with the Trojans continues a long-standing rivalry between the two old Pac-12 foes. Stanford has beaten USC every year since 2017, with the exception of 2021, when the teams did not face each other due to the COVID-19 pandemic. USC’s last win over Stanford came in 2016.
- These will be the first duals of the season for the Cardinal. Under The Goldman Family Director of Men’s Swimming, Dan Schemmel, Stanford is 24-9 head-to-head in duals.
- This weekend marks a return to action after Stanford closed out the 2025 portion of its schedule with a first-place finish in the SMU Invite.
- Stanford saw 15 winners in Dallas, including at least two wins during all four days of the invite.
- In the first half of the season, Stanford piled up 37 individual wins and 48 individual personal records.
- The Cardinal also added 30 NCAA DI Standard times, with 27 coming from individual performances and three in relays.
- After this week’s action, Stanford will have just one dual remaining on Jan. 30 against No. 4 California. That will serve as Stanford’s Senior Day, with competition beginning inside Avery Aquatics Center at 1 p.m.
