STANFORD, Calif. – After outlasting the Gauchos in five sets on Thursday, No. 14 Stanford fell in straight sets to No. 17 UC Santa Barbara, 25-19, 25-20, 25-16, Friday, at Maples Pavilion.
Stanford (1-4) was held to a season-low .155 hitting, while UC Santa Barbara (5-1) turned in a .402 clip.
Outside hitter Theo Snoey and opposite Moses Wagner each registered nine kills to lead the Cardinal. Snoey also finished with two aces, two digs and a block, while Wagner had four digs, two blocks and an ace.
Freshman Jacob Little-Phillips started the match at setter, totaling 20 assists and five digs. Senior Theoren Brouillette set the offense in the third, tallying eight assists, two digs and a block.
Sophomore middle blocker Kaumana Carreira hit .600 with six kills on 10 errorless swings to go with three blocks, while senior Luke McFall had a team-high four blocks. Senior Alex Rottman chipped in with four kills, three digs and two blocks in two sets.
Sophomores Kai Schmitt and Evan Porter split time at libero. Porter collected four digs.
UC Santa Barbara was led by opposite George Bruening, who recorded 14 kills on .400 hitting, two digs and three blocks. Outside hitter Riggs Guy added 11 kills on a .474 attack percentage and six digs.
Stanford hits the road next week, traveling to No. 5 UC Irvine on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 30-31.
