STANFORD, Calif. - No. 2 Stanford posted the top team score in the nation this season, scoring a 326.450 to win the Stanford Open on Saturday evening.
No. 6 Ohio State finished as the runner-up with a 318.050 mark, followed by a 313.950 from No. 7 California. The Cardinal won six of seven events in the meet.
Making his return to collegiate competition, Asher Hong impressed with a pair of event victories on the night, including an 80.300 all-around effort. A two-time still rings NCAA champion, Hong claimed the event title on Saturday with a 14.450 routine.
The Tomball, Texas native also added a 14.050 on parallel bars to finish as the runner-up, along with a third-place finish on vault with a 14.400.
Nick Kuebler continued his impressive start to his senior campaign, finishing in the top two in each of his three events. Kuebler turned in a career-best 14.600 on high bar and a 13.950 routine on floor exercise to win his team-best fourth and fifth event titles of the season. The senior also stuck his still rings routine, ending the night with a second-place 14.000.
Cooper Kim also scored a career-best 14.600 to share the event title with Kuebler, and added a season-best 14.350 to finish fourth on vault. Marcus Kushner rounded out the event winners for Stanford with a 13.700 effort on pommel horse.
Other notable performances from Stanford included a 13.800 still rings routine from Reece Landsperger to finish third, while Arun Chhetri earned a share of the bronze on parallel bars with a 13.950.
A handful of Cardinal also competed unattached in the meet. David Shamah finished third in the all-around with a 78.750 in an effort highlighted by a meet-leading 14.200 on parallel bars. Jun Iwai finished second on vault with a 14.450, while Xander Hong recorded a 72.250 to finish fourth in the all-around race.
Stanford will take a one-week hiatus before heading north of the border on Feb. 6 to compete against Team Canada in the Elite Canada event.
