Jumpers Shine in New Mexico

Xavier Drumgoole, Alyssa Jones, and Alaysia Oakes highlighted the weekend's action

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - A strong effort from the Stanford jumpers highlighted a weekend full of action at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Collegiate Invitational on Friday at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

The weekend featured a pair of event titles from Xavier Drumgoole and Alyssa Jones, while Drumgoole and Alaysia Oakes each set new marks in the Stanford Indoor Top-10.

In Drumgoole's first triple jump of the new season, the Round Rock, Texas native posted a 15.95m (52' 4") mark to claim the event title, the second-best indoor triple jump performance in Stanford history. 

On the women's side, Oakes finished fifth in the triple jump after jumping a new indoor personal best of 12.70m (41' 8"), breaking into the Women's Indoor Top-10 list as the sixth best Cardinal effort all-time. Oakes also finished seventh in the long jump with a 5.95m effort. 

Instead, it was Jones who captured the long jump crown, as The Bowerman Watch List honoree posting a 6.59m (21' 7 1/2") in her sixth and final jump of the day. Jones also competed in the 60m invitational, finishing fifth.

On the track, Ryce Reynolds collected a race win in the 400m dash with a personal-best 47.67 to best the field by nearly two seconds, while teammate Joseph Bailey finished third (49.69). Reynolds also improved upon his previous career mark in the 200m, finishing ninth with a 21.67.

Other notable results included Hannah Rutherford and Zachary Ryan each setting a pair of indoor personal-bests while running the 200-400 double, while Sariah Doresca ran the fastest 60 meters of her young career with a 7.60 to finish third. 

Stanford returns to action with a pair of meets on Jan. 30-31, as the Cardinal will be represented at both the John Thomas Terrier Classic and the New Mexico Team Open.
