Statement Home Opener Win Over Clemson

Roberts and Bărbosu led the Cardinal to a 2-0 start in conference action, tying for the all-around crown with matching totals of 39.450

STANFORD, Calif. – In its first time competing inside Maples Pavilion during the 2026 season, No. 9 Stanford recorded a dominant victory Sunday afternoon over conference rival No. 16 Clemson, 197.075-196.300. The Cardinal improved to 2-0 in conference action with the win over the Tigers.

Senior Anna Roberts and freshman Ana Bărbosu tied for the all-around title with matching scores of 39.450. Roberts also won the vault title, while Bărbosu set new career-best totals on vault (9.850), floor (9.925), and in the all-around competition. Junior Sienna Robinson won the bars title (9.925), marking the third consecutive meet achieving at least one event crown. 

Stanford started its day on vault, matching its season-best team total of 49.000 in its home opener. Roberts led the way with a season-best performance of 9.900, while Bărbosu nailed her first official vault in Maples for a new career-best score of 9.850. For the second straight week, freshman Summer Gronski posted a 9.825 in the third spot of the lineup, while senior Taralyn Nguyen and sophomore Alana Walker added scores of 9.725 and 9.700, respectively.

After the first rotation, Clemson led the meet, 49.150-49.000.

Highlighted by a new career-best score for Robinson (9.925), the Cardinal posted a team total of 49.350 in its bars rotation. Redshirt freshman Levi Jung-Ruivivar led off with a new career-best score of 9.900, while seniors Ava Sorrento and Roberts added scores of 9.850. Bărbosu and sophomore Ui Soma rounded out Stanford’s routines with matching scores of 9.825.

Halfway through the meet, Stanford had a .475 lead, 98.350 to 97.875.

Stanford continued to build its team total on beam, earning a team score of 49.325 in the third rotation. Junior Temple Landry posted a rotation-high score of 9.900 in the fourth spot, while senior Claire Dean led off with a 9.875. Bărbosu, Jung-Ruivivar, and Robinson all added scores of 9.850.

Before the final rotation, Stanford’s lead grew to .500, 147.675-147.175.

The Cardinal concluded the meet with its best rotation of the afternoon, scoring 49.400 on floor, marking the second consecutive week it had posted a score of 49.400 or better on the event. For the third straight meet, Bărbosu set a new career-best score, leading the way with a 9.925, followed by a 9.900 from Roberts and a 9.875 from Nguyen. Walker and Robinson wrapped up the scoring routines with matching scores of 9.850.

Stanford faces a quick turnaround before its next competition, hosting No. 20 California on Friday, Jan. 30. The ACC battle between the Cardinal and Golden Bears is set for a 7 p.m. start and will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
