Stanford Takes Out Cal Poly

Cardinal defeats Mustangs, 43-3

STANFORD, Calif. - Scoring the most team points in a dual since 2023, No. 23 Stanford defeated Cal Poly, 43-3, Friday, in Burnham Pavilion.

Stanford (5-6) won nine of 10 bouts, including eight by bonus points. The Cardinal registered two falls, four technical falls, two major decisions and a decision in the win over the Mustangs (3-4).

The dual started at 184 pounds, where No. 30 Abraham Wojcikiewicz recorded a 14-2 major decision over Ryan Clink. Wojcikiewicz scored four takedowns, an escape and the riding time point in the win. He is now 13-9 overall and 6-5 in duals.

At 197 pounds, No. 14 Angelo Posada turned in his second technical fall of the season with a dominating 17-2 (6:14) performance over Wesley Wilson. The true freshman, who ranks in the top 10 nationally in pins this season, improves to 13-4 overall and 8-2 in duals.

Heavyweight Luke Duthie followed up with a 22-6 technical fall in 3:51 over Cole Jackson. It was the 10th win of the year and third tech. fall for the redshirt junior.

Redshirt junior Nico Provo, who is ranked No. 12, made it 17-0 Stanford with an 11-7 decision over No. 18 Koda Holeman at 125 pounds. Provo tallied three takedowns, an escape and the riding time point in the win. He moves to 9-4 overall and 4-3 in duals.

No. 8 Tyler Knox secured his fastest fall of the season, pinning Anthony Lucio in 1:52. The redshirt sophomore is 10-4 overall and 8-2 in duals.

True freshman Adam Mattin followed up with a fall of his own, pinning Alek VanBebber in 5:32 at 141 pounds. It was the first collegiate win for Mattin, who has wrestled at 125, 133 and, now, 141 pounds for the Cardinal.

Redshirt freshman Aden Valencia, ranked No. 11 at 149 pounds, posted his third technical fall of the year, defeating No. 27 Andre Gonzales, 19-4, in 6:56. Valencia improves to 11-6 overall and 6-4 in duals.

Ranking in the top 10 nationally in technical falls, No. 10 Daniel Cardenas posted another one against the Mustangs. The redshirt junior notched a 21-6 victory in 4:36 over Anthony Berg at 157 pounds. Cardenas now boasts nine tech. falls on the season, moving to 13-3 overall and 8-2 in duals.

Redshirt freshman EJ Parco capped off the scoring for Stanford with an 11-1 major decision over Luke Gayer at 165 pounds. Parco scored three takedowns, an escape and the riding time point in his eighth win of the season.

Stanford will be back in action on Sunday, Feb. 15 when it hosts Pittsburgh. Wrestling begins at 5 p.m. in Maples Pavilion.
