Iowa State Edges Stanford

No. 4 Cyclones defeat No 17 Cardinal, 20-18

STANFORD, Calif. - Redshirt freshman Aden Valencia knocked off a top 5 opponent, but No. 17 Stanford came up short against No. 4 Iowa State, 20-18, in front of 2,189 fans at Maples Pavilion.

Stanford (2-4) and Iowa State (4-1) each won five bouts. The difference in the dual was the Cyclones winning three matches by bonus points to just two by the Cardinal.

Valencia, ranked No. 14 at 149 pounds, registered a 4-3 decision over No. 5 Jacob Frost to secure his second top 5 win of his young career. He is now 9-4 overall and 4-2 in duals this season.

Redshirt junior Nico Provo, ranked No. 14 nationally, opened the dual with a 9-3 decision over Ethan Perryman at 125 pounds. It was the first dual win of the season for Provo, who improved to 6-3 overall.

No. 7 Tyler Knox shut out Adrian Meza with an 11-0 major decision at 133 pounds. The redshirt sophomore is now 6-3 overall and 4-1 in duals.

Wrestling on The Farm for the first time since 2024, No. 9 Daniel Cardenas turned in a dominating 20-5 technical fall in 5:31 against Kane Naaktgeboren at 157 pounds. It was the fifth technical fall of the season for the redshirt junior, who improved to 8-3 overall.

Capping off the scoring for the Cardinal was true freshman Angelo Posada. Ranked No. 19 at 197 pounds, Posada picked up a stalling point in the second and an escape in the third to record a 2-0 decision over CJ Carter. Posada moves to 8-4 on the season and 3-2 in duals.

Stanford remains on The Farm next week, hosting Duke on Friday at 7 p.m. for its ACC opener at Maples Pavilion.
