STANFORD, Calif. – For the first time since 2015, Stanford has topped Trinity (CT). The No. 3 Cardinal took down the two-time defending champion No. 5 Bantams, winning by a score of 5-4.
Stanford entered the Wednesday bout with Trinity just 1-14 all-time against the Bantams, last winning in 2015. Trinity won the CSA National Championship each of the last two seasons, going 40-1 since the start of the 2023-24 season.
The Cardinal jumped out to a 4-1 lead thanks to victories from Avery Park, Madison Ho, Riya Shankaran and Tiana Parasrampuria. Then on court one, Amelie Haworth clinched the win with a four-set victory.
Stanford’s win snapped a 13-match winning streak for Trinity dating back to last season.
The Cardinal opened the homestand with a perfect 9-0 win over No. 23 Hamilton on Tuesday. Haworth, Zhi Xuan Goh, Mariana Narvaez Dardon, Shankaran, Ho, Parasrampuria, Kukadia, Avery Park and Valerie Huang all won in straight sets.
The 2-0 week puts Stanford at 4-1 on the season, now boasting two top-five wins.
The Card’s is back in action on Thursday, Jan. 22 against Harvard in New York City. The Next day marks the start of the CSA Individual Championships, running from Jan. 23-25.
