SARATOGA, Calif. – No. 13 Stanford Softball picked up a seventh-straight game with seven or more runs this afternoon, moving to 7-1 on the season with a 7-1 win over Cal State Fullerton. The Card slugged four doubles and two home runs in a balanced attack that also featured a strong showing in the circle.
Stanford struck quickly, with Kyra Chan doubling to drive in Taryn Kern and give the Card a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
The Card added more in the second, thanks to Taryn Kern’s second home run in as many games. The two-run jack pushed the lead to 3-0. The homer was her third of the season and 29th in a Stanford jersey, moving her out of a tie and into sole possession of the eighth-most in Cardinal history.
Cal State Fullerton scored in the fifth to make it a 3-1 game, but the Card answered back immediately. Addyson Sheppard hit a two-out double, then came around to score on a Joie Economides single.
The run would prove to be the only score allowed by the Cardinal staff, with Elena Krause earning the win with a four innings pitched. The freshman moved to 3-0 on the circle with only four hits allowed on the afternoon.
Stanford added three more in the sixth to break the game wide open, starting with Izzy Cacatian’s first career home run. The two-run blast made it 6-1, then Jade Berry singled in a run to make it seven for the Cardinal.
Alyssa Houston picked up her third save of the season in the circle extending her scoreless inning streak to 10.2 innings to start the year.
Stanford closes out the weekend tomorrow, hosting No. 15 Oregon at 2:30 p.m. PT at Viking Field, with the game broadcast on YouTube.
