STANFORD, Calif. – In the first of two matches, No. 18 Stanford fell to No. 3 Hawaii, 25-16, 25-15, 25-17, Friday, in Maples Pavilion.
Stanford (3-7) was held to a season-low .145 hitting, while Hawaii (11-1) recorded a .515 clip – the highest by a Cardinal opponent this season.
Middle blocker Luke McFall led the Cardinal with six kills on nine errorless swings to hit .667. The redshirt junior also had two aces, a dig and a block.
Senior Theoren Brouillette started the match at setter, totaling 12 assists, an ace and a dig in two sets played. Freshman Jacob Little-Phillips took over in the third, notching five assists and a dig.
Sophomore libero Evan Porter, a native of Honolulu, had a team-high three digs and two assists. Senior Theo Snoey finished with five kills, a block and an assist.
Hawaii setter Tread Rosenthal controlled the Rainbow Warriors offense with 38 assists and had three digs, two blocks and two aces. Outside hitter Adrien Roure hit .667 with 11 kills, three digs and a match-high three aces.
Stanford and Hawaii meet again on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Maples Pavilion.
