Stanford Takes Down No. 14 Oregon

Prystrajko strikes out 11, Sheppard drives in four runs

SARATOGA, Calif. – The No. 13 Cardinal moved to 8-1 through two weekends of play, beating No. 15 Oregon this afternoon 5-4. Zoe Prystrajko struck out 11 in 6.2 non-consecutive innings, and Addyson Sheppard drove in four runs to lead the way.

Stanford opened up the scoring in the first, pushing across a pair of runs without a hit in the frame. Kyra Chan drove in the first with an RBI fielder’s choice, then Sheppard brought in a second with an RBI groundout to make it 2-0.

In the top of the second, Prystajko loaded the bases with no outs, but worked out of it allowing just one run to score in the inning. A solo home run from the Ducks in the third briefly tied it at 2-2, but Stanford answered right back in the home half of the inning.

Sheppard again brought runs in, singling to score Jade Berry and Chan for a 4-2 lead.

Oregon answered back in the top of the fourth, scoring a single run in the third-straight inning to cut the lead to 4-3.

The Card got out of a jam in the top of the fifth to preserve the lead, with Taryn Kern turning a double play with just one out and two runners in scoring position.

Sheppard added more to the lead in the fifth, singling in a run after Berry reached on a two-out triple off the wall in center.

The Ducks scored in the seventh to make it 5-4, but Prystajko closed out the game with her 11th strikeout of the day to close the win.

Stanford is back at home next weekend, hosting the DeMarini Invitational, which begins on Thursday. First up for the Cardinal is a 5:00 p.m. PT game against No. 15 Arizona.
