ATLANTA — No. 5 Stanford men's swimming and diving began the 2026 ACC Championships on Sunday off the springboard, with the diving programs taking center stage. A late charge from the Cardinal gave multiple divers a chance to advance to the 1m finals, but Stanford finished just short on Sunday.
After failing to finish in the top-15 in his first three dives, Misha Andriyuk began to make a charge towards the front in his fourth and fifth dives. His fourth dive was a Back 2 1/2 Somersault Tuck that scored the second-most points in the fourth round (75.00), getting him closer towards the top-8. His fifth dive was even better, scoring 67.50 on his Reverse 2 1/2 Somersault Tuck, the top-scoring dive in round five. Suddenly, Andriyuk was in contention to qualify for the finals. After his Reverse 1 1/2 Somersault 2 1/2 Twist Free in the final round, he was in the top-8, but got bumped by a diver that followed him, ultimately settling in ninth place with a score of 315.55.
A similar script was followed by freshman Gunnar Grubbs, who finished tenth overall with a score of 314.70. He finished 16th or better in his first three dives, but earned an eighth place finish in his fourth dive (60.00) and then a fourth-place finish in his fifth dive (61.50), the same dives that Andriyuk completed. Grubbs was in a better position than his teammate to move onto the finals, but failed to finish inside the top-30 in his final dive, ultimately settling for a top-10 finish in the prelims.
