Cardinal defeats Panthers, 21-12

STANFORD, Calif. - Angelo Posada secured the first top 10 win of his career to help propel No. 22 Stanford past No. 12 Pittsburgh, 21-12, Sunday, in Maples Pavilion.

Stanford (6-6) won seven of the 10 bouts, all by decision, improving to 3-2 in ACC duals. Pitt (10-4) drops to 2-3 in the conference.

Posada, who is ranked No. 13 nationally at 197 pounds, knocked off No. 8 Mac Stout, a returning All-American, with a 5-2 decision. The true freshman scored a takedown after a scramble in the first period, an escape to start the third and finished with riding time to improve to 14-4 overall and 9-2 in duals this season.

The dual began at 125 pounds where No. 10 Nico Provo used overtime to defeat Tyler Chappell, 8-5 in sudden victory. The redshirt junior, who is 10-4 overall, registered the 50th win of his career.

No. 7 Tyler Knox followed up with a 4-0 decision over No. 26 Evan Tallmadge at 133 pounds. The redshirt sophomore recorded all four points in the second period, earning an escape to start before tallying his lone takedown. He is now 11-4 overall and 9-2 in duals.

No. 17 Jack Consiglio returned to the lineup at 141 pounds. The redshirt freshman posted a 3-2 decision over Briar Priest. Priest went up 2-0 early with a reversal to start the second period after Consiglio deferred choice. Starting the third down, Consiglio scored a reversal of his own and then rode out Priest to seal the win with riding time. He moves to 11-5 overall and 6-4 in duals.

At 149 pounds, No. 13 Aden Valencia edged No. 23 Kade Brown, by 5-4 decision. The redshirt freshman led 4-1 in the third. A takedown by Brown tied it momentarily, but Valencia was able to escape and hold off Brown for the remainder of the match. He improves to 12-6 on the season and 7-4 in duals.

No. 10 Daniel Cardenas won a tight bout against No. 17 Dylan Evans, 9-7, at 157 pounds. Leading 7-1 early in the second period, Cardenas gave up an escape and then a takedown to make it 7-5. He notched an escape push his lead to 8-5 going into the final frame. Evans escaped and was awarded a stalling point in the third, but Cardenas finished with riding time in his 14th win of the season and the 70th of his career.

EJ Parco, who is unranked at 165 pounds, earned a 7-3 decision over No. 32 Jared Keslar to give the Cardinal an 18-0 advantage in the dual. With Parco up 3-1 after one, Keslar chose down to start the second and cut the lead to 3-2 with an escape. Parco picked down to start the third, securing an escape and another takedown for his fifth dual win of the year.

Stanford closes out the dual portion of its schedule on Friday at No. 13 North Carolina. Action begins at 4 p.m. PT on ACCNX.
