EVANSTON, Ill. – The Cardinal posted a strong weekend at the Schiller Duals, with the men's squad going 8-1 with a pair of ranked wins. The women finished 8-4, adding their own top-10 win over No. 7 Ohio State.
Stanford swept Ohio State to open up day one on Saturday, with the No. 12 men's team edging out the fifth-ranked Buckeyes 14-13. The women, who entered at No. 11, won 15-12.
The men finished day one 3-1, adding a win over No. 15 UC San Diego before dropping a bout with No. 1 Notre Dame. The loss to the top-ranked Irish would end up as the team's only loss of the weekend. The women finished the day 3-2, falling to UC San Diego as well as No. 2 Notre Dame.
The Cardinal men were perfect on day two, going 5-0 to finish strong. The women's squad ended with dominant wins over Cleveland State, Detroit Mercy, Farleigh Dickinson, Incarnate Word and Lawrence. The only setbacks came against No. 6 Northwestern and No. 2 Notre Dame.
Men's foil led the way amongst weapon groups, going 8-1 across both days. Sanjay Kasi showed out with a 23-3 record in individual bouts, leading the Cardinal in total victories.
Women's saber and foil were just as sharp, each going 9-3. Arianna Cao went 19-5 to lead the weapons in total victories, but Ishani Sood (18-9), Ruoxi Sun (17-8), Ellen Wang (15-5) and Cindy Shum (16-8) were all close behind.
Tanishka Padhye led the women in total victories, going 20-14 in epee competition.
Next up for Stanford is the ACC Championships, which will run from Feb. 22-23 in Durham, N.C.
