LOUISVILLE, Ky, - Five Cardinal were named to the latest U.S. Men's National Team, as Stanford sent eight gymnasts to compete in the Winter Cup on Saturday evening.
On the competition floor, David Shamah highlighted the Cardinal contingent by winning the all-around bronze with a 79.608. Shamah posted the second-highest parallel bars score in the meet with a 14.808, while also adding a ninth-place effort on high bar with a 13.050 score.
Jun Iwai finished 7th in the all-around race with a 76.705, featuring a third-place vault (14.100) and fourth-place high bar routines (13.550). Zach Green placed 12th in the all-around, with his best event finish coming on high bar with an eighth-place 13.550.
Alum Riley Loos, who was returning to competition from a torn rotator cuff, finished in the top six in each of his three events. Loos finished third on floor exercise with a 14.150, while placing fifth on still rings (13.250) and sixth on still rings (14.000).
Cooper Kim collected Stanford's only event title of the meet, pacing the field on vault with a 14.300 routine. Kai Uemura scored the sixth-best routine on floor exercise with a 13.600, while Arun Chhetri's best routine came on parallel bars with a seventh-place 13.752. Kiran Mandava recorded a 12.900 on pommel horse, finishing 10th.
Following the meet, Loos and Shamah were named to the National Team roster alongside current Cardinal gymnast Asher Hong and Stanford alumni Taylor Burkhart and Brody Malone. Iwai was also named to the Senior Development Team.
Stanford returns to collegiate competition next weekend, as they host the Stanford International Collegiate on Feb. 28 at 4 p.m. PT inside Burnham Pavilion.
