No. 2 Cardinal Fights Through Weather Delays for Pair of Top-10 Victories

Stanford earns 3-2 win over No. 6 Texas and completes the sweep against No. 7 LMU

HONOLULU – No. 2 Stanford captured its third and fourth top-10 victories of the young 2026 season Saturday, battling through weather delays to top No. 6 Texas, 3-2, and No. 7 LMU, 3-0, on Queen’s Beach in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The Cardinal (5-1) leaves the Aloha State with five top-16 victories, including an upset of the No. 1-ranked team in the nation. All matches on Saturday were played to decision due to inclement weather.

After Stanford’s first match of the day was pushed to a 2 p.m. PT start time (originally scheduled for 10:30 a.m.), the dual kicked off with the Cardinal securing victories in set one on three courts: court one, court three, and court four. The Cardinal captured the match’s first point on the top court, besting Piersma/Hashman, 23-21, 21-16, but all other courts were pushed to three-set battles. Texas evened the match with an 18-21, 21-15, 15-8 win on court two, but redshirt freshman Elena Fisher and junior Chloe Hoffman punched back with a 21-17, 16-21, 15-9 victory on court five. After the Longhorns secured their second match point on court four, it came down to sophomore Indigo Clarke and junior Clara Stowell’s battle on court three. After winning the first set and a second set that pushed to extras, the duo captured the match with a 21-13, 29-31, 15-8 triumph over Texas’ Robertson/Thomas.

The Cardinal quickly got back on the sand to take on No. 7 LMU, capturing its first sweep win of the weekend. Sophomores Charlotta Bell and Logan Tusher recorded the first match point with a 21-17, 21-13 win on court four, quickly followed by a 21-17, 21-18 victory on court two at the hands of sophomore Avery Jackson and junior Brooke Rockwell. Fisher and Hoffman sealed the match with a 21-18, 21-19 win on court five.

Stanford returns to the friendly confines of The Farm for its second weekend of action in 2026, hosting its annual Battle of the Bay tournament at Stanford Beach Volleyball Stadium. The Cardinal takes on USF and Santa Clara on Friday and battles Saint Mary’s and UC Davis on Saturday, with matches scheduled for 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. each day.
