Card Knocks Off Cougars

No. 18 Stanford defeats No. 7 BYU in four

STANFORD, Calif. – Moses Wagner had a match-high 20 kills to lead No. 18 Stanford past No. 7 BYU, 25-21, 25-22, 23-25, 30-28, Friday, in Maples Pavilion.

Stanford (8-8, 5-0 MPSF) hit .306 as a team and racked up 11.0 blocks and 30 digs. The Cardinal also matched its season-high with eight aces. BYU (15-5, 2-1 MPSF) was held to a .265 clip, and totaled 6.0 blocks, 34 digs and two aces.

Wagner’s 20 kills were a season-high for the senior, and the most by a Cardinal player in a match in 2026. The opposite hit .457 and tallied four blocks and three digs.

The Cardinal improved to 7-2 on the season when hitting .300 or higher and is 8-0 when outhitting its opponent.

Freshman setter Jacob Little-Phillips controlled the offense with 47 assists to go with two blocks, a dig and an ace. Sophomore libero Evan Porter collected a season-best 16 digs, one shy of his career high, and the most by a Stanford player in 2026.

Middle blocker Luke McFall hit .750 with a season-high nine kills on 12 errorless swings, four blocks and a career-best three aces. McFall’s attack percentage is the highest by a Cardinal player this season with a minimum of 10 attempts.

Sophomore middle blocker Kaumana Carreira recorded eight kills on .333 hitting and a match-high five blocks. Outside hitters Nate Clinton and Alex Rottman each notched seven kills. Clinton added six digs, three blocks and two aces, while Rottman had three blocks and a dig.

Senior Theoren Brouillette and junior Carson Kneisl came off the bench as serving subs, each recording an ace.

BYU was led by outside hitter Trent Moser and middle blocker AJ Cottle. Moser had a team-high 16 kills, six digs and two blocks, while Cottle was 15-0-17 for an .882 attack percentage.

Stanford and BYU meet again on Saturday. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m. from Maples Pavilion.
