STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford Track & Field completed its indoor season at the NCAA Championships in Fayetteville, as three Cardinal student-athletes garnered four All-America honors at the Randal Tyson Track Center this weekend.
Alyssa Jones highlighted the weekend for Stanford with an impressive high jump-long jump double, collecting a pair of First Team All-America honors with podium finishes in each event.
Friday, Jones posted a season-best mark of 6.70m to finish as the national runner-up in the women's long jump. The performance marks the best career finish in the event for Jones after finishing third and fourth, respectively, the last two seasons.
Jones added to her strong weekend on Saturday, matching her career-best clearance of 1.91 meters on high jump to finish third. Now a ten-time All-American in her career, Jones' double marks the first time she's earned First Team All-America honors in both events at the same indoor NCA Championships.
After posting the second-fastest prelim time of 2:01.99 to secure her bid to the event final, Juliette Whittaker clocked a 2:00.68 in the 800m final to finish fourth. Clemson's Gladys Chepngetich led the race wire-to-wire, crossing the line at 2:00.11 to deny Whittaker's bid for her second indoor 800m national title.
Sophia Kennedy made her third career NCAA Indoor Championships appearance in the 5000 meters final, finishing 13th with a time of 15:49.46 to earn Second Team All-America honors. It's Kennedy's second time becoming an indoor All-American in the event, finishing fifth in last year's championships.
Stanford finished 9th overall in the team standings, wrapping the weekend with 21 points.
The Cardinal will now turn it's attention to the outdoor season, beginning with the Cal Invitational on March 21.
