Notre Dame’s four-run seventh inning costs Cardinal

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford battled back after trailing 3-1 in the fifth, but a four-run seventh inning from Notre Dame knocked the Cardinal to 15-8 on the season and 5-4 in ACC play. The Card scored in fifth and sixth innings to tie the game heading into the seventh, but the Irish rallied with a big inning to take a 7-4 win.

Stanford struck early, with a Kyra Chan solo shot making it a 1-0 game in the bottom of the first. Notre Dame was able to quickly answer in the top of the second, scoring without a hit to tie it at 1-1. The run scored snapped a scoreless inning streak of 12.2 innings for Zoe Prystajko in the circle.

Notre Dame added runs in the third and fifth to take a 3-1 lead.

The Card started to rally in the fifth, with River Mahler scoring after a leadoff triple. Mylia Perez singled to bring her home, entering as a pinch hitter and providing the clutch hit to make it 3-2.

Then in the sixth, Stanford tied it up at three. Jade Berry had the big hit, doubling in Emily Jones to even the score with one inning to go.

The Irish scored four in the top of the seventh to retake the lead at 7-3. Jones doubled to score Izzy Cacatian in the seventh, but the late rally wasn’t enough.

Stanford is on the road next weekend, heading to Chapel Hill for a three-game series at North Carolina. Friday’s series opener is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. PT, and can be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
