Stanford Wins On Senior Night

STANFORD, Calif. - No. 2 Stanford men's gymnastics closed out the regular season with a victory on Saturday night, scoring 322.700 to knock off No. 8 California and No. 13 Air Force. 

The Golden Bears scored 311.500 to finish second, followed by 308.100 from Air Force. Team France (305.300) and Team Quebec (289.150) also competed in the meet, rounding out the five-team field. 

The meet also acted as the program's Senior Night, as the Cardinal celebrated its four graduates, Arun Chhetri, Asher Hong, Nick Kuebler, and Marcus Kushner, ahead of their final meet at Burnham Pavilion. 

Jun Iwai highlighted the Cardinal with a pair of event titles, turning in career-bests to win floor exercise and high bar. Iwai's 14.700 routine on floor was the best routine in the nation this season, while his 14.300 effort on high bar ranked him in the top-5 nationally. Iwai also registered a 14.300 on vault, finishing tied for fifth. 

Hong scored a 14.050 on still rings to win the third event title of his senior campaign. capped off his final routine on The Farm with a stick. The Tomball, Texas native also finished runner-up on parallel bars with a 14.250. 

Instead, it was David Shamah who claimed the parallel bars crown with a 14.300 score. Cooper Kim and Toma Murakawa were a part of a four-way tie for first on vault, each posting a 14.350 to share the event title. Kim also had a strong performance on the floor, tying for second with a 14.200. 

Kuebler's final home meet included a pair of podium finishes, posting a season-best 14.200 on floor exercise to finish runner-up, while adding a bronze medal on still rings with a 13.250. Chhetri finished fourth on parallel bars (13.850) and fifth on still rings (13.050), while Kushner turned in the third-best pommel horse score of the night with a 13.300 exhibition routine. 

Stanford now turns its attention to the postseason, beginning with the MPSF Championships on April 4 in Berkeley, Calif.
