Battling Through Two Rounds

Stanford sits in 10th after two rounds at the Cabo Collegiate

LOS CABOS, Mexico — Edan Cui and Jay Leng set the tone for a final day sprint as the Stanford men’s golf team wrapped up the second round of play at the Cabo Collegiate on Monday afternoon. Stanford, which shot 3-over for the day on Monday, enters Tuesday’s final round at 5-over for the tournament and 10th overall as a team. 

Cui and Leng both benefited from a virtuous front-nine performance as both golfers claimed a 1-under card on the Twin Dolphin Course’s first nine holes. Cui, who entered the day at 1-over for the tournament, hit the turn to the front nine at 1-over with his first of three birdies on the day on hole 16. Cui then bookmarked holes 1 through three with birdies to end the day at even-par and tied for 26th overall heading into the final round. 

Leng also shot well on the front nine, slotting in two of his four birdies for the round on it. Having started the round at 2-over through four holes, Leng earned a birdie on hole 16 that saw the sophomore claw back up the leaderboard. Leng snatched birdies on holes three and five before ending his second round with his final birdie of the day to finish at even-par. Leng shot up seven spots on the overall leaderboard and enters the final round tied with Cui for 26th at 1-over par. 

Dean Greyserman snagged three birdies on the day during Monday’s second round, battling back from three early-round bogeys. Greyserman, snatched a birdie on hole 17 before earning another one hole one. The senior then bounced back from a bogey on hole three with a birdie on hole four to finish the round at 1-over par. Greyserman currently sits in a tie for 45th heading into the final day at 4-over. 

Nathan Wang shot well on the day despite finish at 2-over for the round. Having started the round clean through the first five holes, Wang ran into trouble with bookended bogeys on holes 15 and 17. However, the seasoned veteran snagged a birdie on hole 18 and hit the turn with a head of steam, rifling a clean card through seven holes on the front nine. Wang eventually turned in his 2-over card for the day and sits at 1-under par for the tournament in a tie for 19th place. 

Serving as the reserve score for Stanford on Monday, TK Chantananuwat battled through an up and down round with three birdies on the day. Chantananuwat had a strong start to Monday’s action, earning a birdie on his first hole of the day before ending the back nine at 3-over. The sophomore then snagged his final two birdies of the day on the front nine, securing his 3-over card for the afternoon with birdies on holes five and nine. 

Stanford wraps up the final round of the Cabo Collegiate on Tuesday, March 3. The Cardinal tees off in a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. MT / 7:30 p.m. PT.
