Provo Third, Knox and Posada Sixth in Cleveland

Aden Valencia wrestles in the finals Saturday night

CLEVELAND - Nico Provo finished third, while Tyler Knox and Angelo Posada took sixth in the medal round of the NCAA Championships, Saturday, at Rocket Arena.

Provo, the No. 7 seed at 125 pounds, posted an 8-1 decision over No. 14 seed Jacob Moran of Indiana in the consolation semifinal to set up a third meeting of the season with defending national champion Vincent Robinson.

In the third-place bout, Provo dominated 12th-seeded Robinson, 10-2, to pick up his third win of the season over the defending national champion. A native of Stratford, Connecticut, Provo’s third-place finish is the highest by a Cardinal 125-pounder in school history.

Knox, the No. 15 seed at 133 pounds, placed sixth, climbing two spots higher on the podium than last season. He is the eighth wrestler in program history to earn multiple NCAA All-America honors, and his sixth-place showing is the best by a Stanford 133-pounder at the national tournament.

Posada also secured a sixth-place finish for the Cardinal. The No. 9 seed at 197 pounds, he is just the second true freshman All-American in program history.

Redshirt freshman Aden Valencia, the No. 10 seed at 149 pounds, will face top-seeded Shayne Van Ness of Penn State in the finals tonight at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT on ESPN.
