FORT WORTH, Texas – No. 2 Stanford won its sixth game against a top-10 opponent this season Wednesday, topping No. 7 TCU 4-1 on its home courts.
The Cardinal started off the match strong, capturing the first two points on courts four and five. Junior Chloe Hoffman and redshirt freshman Elena Fisher pushed their first set to extra points to secure the victory and quickly followed with a decisive second set, defeating TCU's Taylor/Mol on court five, 22-20, 21-13. Sophomore Indigo Clarke and junior Clara Stowell fought off the Horned Frogs' comeback attempt in set two to win the third match point on court four, 21-11, 16-21, 16-14. Juniors Ruby Sorra and Brooke Rockwell clinched the match with a comeback victory on court 2, beating Serrano Ferro/Beutel 15-21, 21-13, 15-6.
Senior Kelly Belardi and sophomore Avery Jackson secured the fourth match point with a straight-set victory on court one, beating Khmil/Glenn 21-16, 21-15. Sophomores Charlotta Bell and Logan Tusher came back from a first-set defeat to send their match to a third, but eventually fell to Reeves/Izuzquiza 21-16, 19-21, 10-15.
Stanford takes a short road trip to Austin, Texas, for its next taste of action on the sand, competing in the Texas Invitational March 27-28. The Cardinal is set to take on No. 12 LSU and No. 6 Texas on March 27 at the Whitaker Sports Complex, with matches scheduled for 8 and 11 a.m. PT, respectively. The next day, Stanford faces No. 17 North Florida and No. 16 Florida Atlantic at ATX Beach at 6 and 9:30 a.m. PT, respectively.
