ACC Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Year

Alyssa Jones becomes the first Field athlete to win the conference's highest honor in program history

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford senior Alyssa Jones was named ACC Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Year, as the conference office released its annual awards on Friday morning.

Jones won three high jump titles and two long jump titles during the indoor season, and matched her career-best high jump with a 1.91m clearance at the UW Preview. Her marks in both events ranked first in the ACC and among the top five nationally.

At the ACC Championships last month, Jones repeated as the ACC high jump champion wth a 1.86m championship effort and added a runner-up finish in the long jump (6.38m), earning Women’s Field Most Valuable Performer honors for the second consecutive season.

Jones carried that success into the NCAA Championships with two trips to the national podium, finishing runner-up in the long jump and third in the high jump, both career-best results.

Now a ten-time NCAA All-American, Jones becomes the first conference Field Athlete of the Year in program history. Kori Carter (2013) and Chryste Gaines (1992) are Stanford’s only previous Women’s Track Athlete of the Year honorees, both under the Pac-12 banner.

Kicking off the outdoor season at the Cal Invitational last weekend, the Cardinal turns its attention to the first home meet of the season, playing host to the Stanford Invitational on April 3-4.
