Resilient second round sees Stanford head into final day at The Goodwin one shot off the team lead

STANFORD, Calif. — Stanford men’s golf showed resilience on Friday, shooting an even-par, up-and-down second round at The Goodwin to head into the final day one shot off the lead. Stanford enters the final day at 11-under par as a team and tied for third place. 

Leading the charge for Stanford, Dean Greyserman turned in his second-lowest round of the season, shooting a 4-under, 66 to put the Cardinal in good stead for the team title race. The senior followed up his 1-over round on Thursday with a sensational run on the back-nine, shooting 4-under at the turn. Greyserman amassed two more birdies on the front-nine before ending his day at 4-under, earning his fourth round in the 60s this season. Greyserman occupies a tie for 13th at 3-under par. 

Following Greyserman, Jay Leng battled through the tough Stanford Golf Course, hitting the turn at 1-over through nine. Leng, however, showed poise on the front-nine, earning birdies on holes one, seven and eight to claim an even-par, 70 for the day. Leng’s four birdies on the day sees him sit at 5-under for the tournament and inside the top-10 tied for seventh heading into Saturday’s final round. 

Edan Cui followed the duo with an impressive end to his round. The freshman neared the turn at 18 at 2-over before stringing two birdies in his last three holes before the turn to snatch a 1-over card through nine. The freshman seized the momentum on hole one with an eagle to spring himself back under par. Cui managed to hold steady through the rest of the round, finishing at 1-over for the day as he sits in a tie for 60th at 3-over par. 

Nathan Wang and Ethan Gao also shot well during the morning wave. Wang snagged three birdies on the day but battled hard through multiple obstacles including keeping Stanford in contention for the team title with his performance on the front nine. Wang sits in 22nd place at 1-under par. Gao earned two birdies on the day for the Cardinal, claiming his them on holes 16 and one as he ended the day at 3-over. The junior currently slots in 28th place at even-par for the tournament. 

Golfing individually, TK Chantananuwat, Kush Arora and Cooper Stearns all shot well on Friday. Chantananuwat slotted two birdies on his account to claim a 4-over card while Arora matched the sophomore at 4-under with one birdie on Friday. Stearns potted two birdies on the day as he battled through the course as well. 

Stanford is back in action for the final round of The Goodwin on Saturday, March 28. Edan Cui and the Cardinal tee off from hole 1 at 8 a.m.
