Bruins Sweep Cardinal

Stanford drops to 6-2 In the MPSF

STANFORD, Calif. – For a second consecutive night, No. 14 Stanford fell in straight sets to No. 1 UCLA, 25-21, 25-22, 25-21, Saturday, in Maples Pavilion.

Stanford (9-10) drops to 6-2 in the MPSF with six matches remaining. UCLA (7-0 MPSF) is 20-0 for the first time since 1984.

Four different Cardinal players finished with a team-high six kills. Sophomore libero Evan Porter tallied a match-best seven digs.

The Cardinal hit .292 as a team but was overpowered by a UCLA offense which posted a .380 attack percentage. The Bruins put down seven aces, including four by outside hitter Zach Rama, and held a 45-32 advantage in kills and a 5.0 to 4.0 edge in blocks.

Freshman setter Jacob Little-Phillips controlled the offense with 24 assists and had three kills, an ace, a block and a dig.

Middle blocker Kaumana Carreira hit .500 with six kills and a pair of blocks. Opposite Moses Wagner totaled six kills, three digs, an ace and a block, while outside hitter Alex Rottman added six kills, two digs and a block.

Outside hitter Nate Clinton turned in six kills, an ace, a dig and a block. Middle blocker Luke McFall recorded four kills on five errorless swings and two blocks.

Rama led UCLA with 12 kills on .429 hitting, while outside hitter Sean Kelly had 11 kills on a .529 clip to go with an ace, a dig and a block.
