SARASOTA, Fla. – Stanford completed action Saturday in the two-day Sarasota 2K at Nathan Benderson Park.
The No. 9 Cardinal placed fifth among a field of top-10 teams. Stanford raced No. 1 Washington, No. 3 Harvard, No. 6 Brown, No. 7 Northeastern and No. 10 Yale in each race. The teams competed for the Benderson Cup.
Stanford finished sixth among the same group in its last trip to Sarasota two years ago and was sixth in both the 1V8 and 2V8 races. This season, the Cardinal’s 1V8 came in fourth in 5:53.37 less than a second behind Brown for third (5:52.51).
The Cardinal’s 2V8 and 3V8 both finished fifth ahead of Yale. Just two weeks ago in its season-opening Redwood Shores Invitational, Stanford raced a 3V8 for the first time in seven years.
Stanford was just one point of Northeastern for fourth in the overall standings, with 15 points to the Huskies’ 16. Washington topped the field to win the Cup, tying with Harvard on points, but winning the tiebreaker based on the varsity eight finish.
On Friday, the Cardinal competed against Washington and Harvard in a double-dual regatta, placing third in each of the 1V8, 2V8 and 3V8 races.
Washington earned the Andrea and Everett Peter Paup Cup, given to the annual UW-Stanford winner.
Stanford was timed in 5:39.52 in the 1V8, 5:50.26 in the 2V8 and 5:57.92 in the 3V8.
The Cardinal returns home next weekend when it hosts Oregon State and Wisconsin at Redwood Shores Lagoon on Saturday, April 4.
