Men’s Basketball Wins Third Straight, Triumphs at Notre Dame

Ebuka Okorie and Jeremy Dent-Smith combined for 45 points in the victory

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Continuing its strong end to the regular season in the ACC, Stanford men’s basketball picked up a victory on the road at Notre Dame, 86-78, at Purcell Pavilion. The Cardinal improves to 19-11 this season and 8-9 in the ACC.

Ebuka Okorie led the offense with 24 points and seven assists, finishing 10-for-19 from the floor with a trio of 3-pointers. Okorie moved into 11th on Stanford’s single-season scoring list, passing Casey Jacobsen (2000-01) and Keith Jones (1983-84), as well as into fourth on Stanford’s freshman list for steals and assists. The 20-point outing was the 17th of the season for Okorie, who leads the ACC in scoring.

Jeremy Dent-Smith set a new season high with 21 points, going 6-for-7 from the floor and 5-for-6 from beyond the arc, including the dagger 3-pointer in the game’s final minute. AJ Rohosy ended with 11 points and five rebounds while Donavin Young tallied 10 points, three blocks and two steals. Benny Gealer scored seven points and moved into a tie for eighth on Stanford’s single-season 3-pointers list with 79.

Stanford shot 57.1 percent from the floor as a team and 52.2 percent from beyond the arc, and it held a 34-24 advantage in the paint.

The Cardinal led for nearly 35 minutes on the night, and it took the lead for good with 9:17 to play in the first half after an 18-7 run gave Stanford a 10-point lead, 38-28, with 6:44 to play in the period. Stanford led at the intermission, 45-37.

Stanford led by as many as 11 points in the second half. Dent-Smith tallied 13 points in the second half including three 3-pointers.  Leading by 10 with 3:34 remaining, Notre Dame rallied to cut the score to three with a 7-0 run. Stanford answered with a 3-pointer from Jaylen Thompson before Dent-Smith cemented the result with a deep 3-poitner with 44 seconds to play. Dent-Smith iced the Irish with a 4-for-4 mark at the free throw line to close the night.

Completing the regular season on the road, Stanford travels to NC State on Saturday, March 7 at 11:15 a.m. PT (2:15 p.m. ET). The action will air on The CW.
