LOS ANGELES – The No. 1 Cardinal captured two victories on its first day of action at the MPSF Midseason Rumble, topping Oregon 5-0 and besting No. 13 LSU 3-2 at Merle Norman Stadium on the campus of USC.
With its wins over the Ducks and Tigers, Stanford (11-1) now owns five wins over conference foes in its first 12 matches of the 2026 season.
Stanford’s twos and fours pairs set the tone against the Ducks, quickly adding the first and second match points to the board with two-set victories. Sophomores Charlotta Bell and Logan Tusher finished first with a 21-14, 21-7 win on court four, followed by a 21-17, 21-16 triumph on court two from sophomore Avery Jackson and junior Brooke Rockwell. Sophomore Indigo Clarke and junior Clara Stowell captured the match win with a dominant 21-7, 21-10 victory on court three. The pairs of Belardi/Sorra and Fisher/Hoffman followed suit with impressive sweeps on courts one and five, besting UO’s Rossi/Gamache 21-11, 21-17 and George/Koellner 21-13, 21-15, respectively.
The battle with the Tigers proved more difficult, with the twos and fours pairs splitting the first two match points. Stanford took the first point of the dual on court four as Bell/Tusher topped Meyer/Lagemann 21-17, 21-13, but LSU’s Martin/Finlason quickly punched back, holding off a comeback attempt from Jackson/Rockwell to take the point on court two 24-22, 16-21, 15-10.
In the second wave of action, only Clarke and Stowell captured their first set on court three, while both Belardi/Sorra and Fisher/Hoffman lost their first set in extra points on courts one and five. The match looked to be turning in the direction of the Tigers, but a two-set win on court three from Clarke/Stowell and a dominant second and third set on court five from Hoffman/Fisher secured the three points needed to win the dual.
The Cardinal continues action at the MPSF Midseason Rumble Saturday, taking on two top-five opponents on the campus of UCLA. Stanford first battles with No. 5 Texas at 11 a.m. and follows with a one-versus-two matchup at 3 p.m. against the home squad. Both matches will be streamed on B1G+ and live scoring can be found at stanford.statbroadcast.com.
