STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 21 Cardinal bounced back from last weekend’s series loss at Louisville, finishing off a three-game sweep of Pitt today to move to 14-6 on the year and 4-2 in conference play. The Stanford offense finished with 11 hits, six for extra bases, and Zoe Prystajko continued a hot weekend with eight strikeouts in three innings.
The Cardinal scored first for the first time this weekend, thanks to Emily Jones’ first homer of the season. The senior crushed a pitch to right center in the bottom of the first, putting Stanford ahead on the solo shot.
The Card kept the runs coming in the second, plating three more on a RBI singles from Joie Economides and Taryn Kern, as well as a sacrifice fly from River Mahler.
Pitt answered back with a pair of runs in the third inning, cutting the lead in half at 4-2.
Prystajko entered in relief for the third-straight game, mowing down the side with three-straight strikeouts in the fifth inning to start off her appearance.
Stanford put another run up in the fifth, with Addyson Sheppard singling to score Kyra Chan and make it 5-2.
The Cardinal poured more on in the sixth, with Kern and Jones hitting back-to-back doubles to plate three and make it an 8-2 game. Sheppard’s second RBI single in as many innings scored Jones and made it a 9-2 Stanford lead.
Prystajko struck out two in a hitless seventh inning to ice the win. The sophomore finishes the weekend with two wins, a save and 24 strikeouts in 9.2 hitless innings.
