BLACKSBURG, Va. - Daniel Cardenas and Jack Consiglio won individual titles to lead Stanford to a runner-up finish at the ACC Championships, Sunday, at Cassell Coliseum.
The Cardinal produced multiple conference champions in the same season for the first time since 2022. Host Virginia Tech (106.0) finished atop the team standings, while Stanford (84.0) was second and NC State (57.0) was third. It is the highest conference finish under Chris Ayres, The Matt Gentry Head Coach, who is in his third season at the helm of the program.
The No. 1 seed at 157 pounds, Cardenas captured his second conference title after winning a Pac-12 crown as a freshman in 2023. The redshirt junior defeated No. 2 seed Ethen Miller of Virginia Tech, 5-2, in the finals. He improves to 17-3 on the season with 13 of those wins coming by bonus points.
Cardenas, who is on a team-best 10 match winning streak, became just the 11th Cardinal wrestler to win multiple conference titles, and the first since Real Woods (2020 & 2022).
Consiglio, the No. 1 seed at 141 pounds, defeated No. 2 seed Luke Simcox of North Carolina, 4-3, in the finals. He is the 10th Cardinal freshman to capture a conference crown, and the first since Cardenas in 2023. The Lansdale, Pennsylvania, native, is now 14-5 overall.
In total, eight Cardinal secured automatic berths into the NCAA Championships on Sunday. Joining Cardenas and Consiglio are Nico Provo (125), Tyler Knox (133), Aden Valencia (149), EJ Parco (165), Abraham Wojcikiewicz (184) and Angelo Posada (197). It marks the second straight season with eight NCAA qualifiers - tied for the second-most in program history.
Provo, Knox and Posada all turned in runner-up finishes in Blacksburg. Provo defeated defending NCAA champion Vincent Robinson of NC State for a second time this season to reach the finals, where he came up short in tiebrekers to the top seed Eddie Ventresca of Virginia Tech. Provo, who is 13-5 on the season, is now a three-time NCAA qualifier.
Knox opened the tournament with a pair of bonus-point victories to advance to the finals. A returning All-American, Knox will make his second NCAA postseason appearance in Cleveland.
A true freshman, Posada was the top seed at 197 pounds. Earning a bye into the semis, he posted an 8-5 decision over his high school teammate Robert Platt of North Carolina to reach the finals.
Valencia, Parco and Wojcikiewicz all placed third for the Cardinal and will be making their first appearances in the national tournament.
Stanford closes out its 2025-26 campaign at the NCAA Championships, held March 19-21, in Cleveland. NCAA at-large berths will be announced on Tuesday, while the seeds and brackets for the national tournament will be revealed on Wednesday.
