SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Jim Plunkett, one of the all-time greats in Stanford history, is being honored by California State Senator Dave Cortese with Senate Resolution 93 (SR 93).
The Senate Resolution honors Plunkett and his recent induction into the inaugural class of the NFL Alumni Latino Hall of Fame. Senator Cortese, among others, hopes that SR 93 serves as a call to action to ensure Plunkett's contributions to the sport are fully recognized at the highest level.
Plunkett is the lone Heisman Trophy winner in Stanford history and was selected No. 1 overall in the 1971 NFL Draft by the Patriots. He enjoyed a 17-year career in the NFL, leading the Raiders franchise to two Super Bowl appearances and a win with MVP honors during Super Bowl XV. Plunkett was the first Hispanic player chosen first overall in an NFL draft and the first to be named Super Bowl MVP.
