STANFORD, Calif. - The 131st edition of the Big Meet, the annual track & field meet between Stanford and California, returns to The Farm on Saturday at Cobb Track & Angell Field.
The meet resumes a series that dates back to April 22, 1893, the first meeting between the two programs, which was dubbed "First Intercollegiate Field Day" at San Francisco’s Olympic Club Grounds. Stanford won three events, sweeping the two-mile bicycle race and placing first and third in the one-mile walk. California ultimately won the men’s-only meet, 91–35.
Cal holds a 75-53-2 all-time record in the men's portion of the meet, while Stanford holds a 30-15 on the women's side since its introduction in 1980. The Stanford women have won each of the past three matchups, while the Cal men have won four consecutive Big Meets.
Last season at Edwards Stadium in Berkeley, Cal won the men's competition by a score of 95-65, while the Cardinal women earned an 87-72 victory. Sophia Kennedy highlighted four new meet records with a 4:15.93 in the women's 1500m, while Johnny Goode (men's 400m), Mykolas Alekna (men's discus), and Caisa-Marie Lindfors rounded out the newest record-holders.
This will be the sixth Big Meet for both head coaches: J.J. Clark, Stanford’s Franklin P. Johnson Director of Track and Field/Cross Country, and Robyne Johnson, Cal’s Director of Track and Field/Cross Country.
Competition is set to begin at 12:00 p.m. with the Men's Hammer Throw, while track events are slated to begin at 1:15 p.m. with the Women's 3000m Steeplechase. Stanford will also honor its Class of 2026 seniors during the meet, with the senior recognition scheduled for 3:55 p.m.
