LAKE WHATCOM, Wash. – The Cardinal took home another two PCCSC Championships this weekend, winning the Women’s Fleet Race and Team Race Championships, as well as the Thompson trophy.
The Card now boasts seven PCCSC titles in the 2025-26 season, and three in the spring season alone. The three wins give Stanford 36 first-place finishes in 39 regattas this season, and brings the team’s.
“This group of ladies is the best in the country. I am sure they know it in their hearts,” said head coach Chris Klevan. “We have an opportunity to prove it soon. We cannot let immense, unprecedented success defeat us between now and the championship. Time to turn it up a bit.”
The Cardinal went 6-0 at the PCCSC Women’s Team Race Championship, with Sophie Fisher, Alexandra Jones, Ellie Harned, Caroline Geiger, Kit Harned and Piper Blackband competing. The squad swept the top three spots in two of the six races, finishing ahead of second place Hawai’i at 5-1.
Stanford posted another dominant finish at the PCCSC Women’s Fleet Race Championship, topping the 12-team competition with a score of 49.
Stanford’s A boat of Fisher, Jones and Ellie Harned finished first with 24 points, winning five of 10 races. The B boat featuring Blackband, Geiger and Kit Harned also finished first with 25 points with five first-place finishes of their own.
Meanwhile, the Cardinal finished first at the Coast Guard-hosted Thompson Trophy.
“This journey these kids are on can be the most fun, and most rewarding experiences of their young lives. This weekend was absolutely champagne and the team sailed like champs,” said Klevan. “The problem is, we’re not champions yet. We showed everyone how good we are and they will work extremely hard to undo that advantage. We have to work harder.”
The Card went 14-1 in the 16-team competition, sweeping the top three spots in each of the first four races of the weekend and six total. Stanford’s squad featured Reade Decker, Callie Hammond, Thomas Sitzmann, Alice Schmid, Vanessa Lahrkamp, Abby Baird and Dylan Sih.
The 14-1 record tied Stanford with Harvard for the best record overall, but the Card won the head-to-head matchup to claim the overall win.
Next up for Stanford is the last weekend of the season before ICSA National Championships begin. The Cardinal heads to Southern California for the PCCSC Open Fleet Race Championship from April 18-19.
