STANFORD, Calif. — Aliya Polisky and Kate Bellissimo continue to rake in the national accolades this season as both players were named to the Tewaaraton Award Top 25, the Tewaaraton Foundation announced on Thursday. Polisky and Bellissimo become the first Cardinal to be named to the Top 25 list since Ali Baiocco in 2021.
Polisky, who was named to the initial Tewaaraton Award Watch List back in February, leads the Cardinal in scoring heading into Thursday’s Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) clash against Cal, stacking up 38 goals and 21 assists for 59 points this season. A Preseason All-ACC honoree and Preseason All-American, Polisky has set a new single-season high with 21 assists this season as the redshirt-junior has earned a point in all but one game this season. Polisky currently ranks third all-time in points (212) and third in goals (156) while her 56 career assists slot her 10th all-time.
Bellissimo, however, was a late addition to the Tewaaraton Award after earning a spot on the Watch List following the second round of additions. Bellissimo set the program record for caused turnovers in a game with eight in the win over Duke earlier this season while ranking 10th all-time in single-season caused turnovers entering Thursday with 27 this season. Bellissimo has spearheaded a Stanford defense that has ranked in the top-20 all season in scoring defense while her 1.80 caused turnovers per game ranks eighth in the conference. Bellissimo’s 27 caused turnovers and 37 ground balls are both career-high’s as her 60 career caused turnovers ranks 12th all-time.
Stanford concludes the regular season tonight against the California Golden Bears at 6 p.m. Stanford then treks to North Carolina next week for the ACC Women’s Lacrosse Championships with a quarterfinal matchup set to be played on Wednesday, April 22. Stanford’s opponent and time for its quarterfinal matchup is to be determined.
