Back-to-Back Run-Rule Wins

Cardinal wins 11th straight with 9-0 victory over California

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford run-ruled California for a second-straight day today, winning 9-0 in six innings to improve to 33-12 on the season and 17-6 in ACC play. The victory extends a season-best winning streak to 11 games, and marks the fifth-straight game with No. 16 Stanford’s pitching staff limiting the opposition to under three runs scored.

For the eighth time in the last 10 games, the Cardinal scored in the first inning. Taryn Kern led off with a double, moving over to third on a sacrifice bunt from Emily Jones. Kyra Chan doubled in the next at bat, bringing her home for the first run of the game.

Kern’s run scored was her 168th with the Card, tied for the sixth-most in program history.

Chan came around to score as well, thanks to a third double in the inning. This one came from Jade Berry, her 40th RBI of the year.

Zoe Prystajko got the start in the circle, and followed up the offensive opening with a shutdown bottom of the first. After walking the leadoff batter, the sophomore got three-straight strikeouts to head to the second.

Stanford added three more in the top of the second thanks to three more extra-base hits. Ava Gall doubled, then Sydney Boulaphinh crushed her third home run in her last three at-bats. The two-run shot gives her five on the season, and made it a 4-0 lead.

Jones walked on the ensuing at-bat, coming around to score on a triple from Kyra Chan and make it a 5-0 lead.

The Cardinal bats quieted down for the third through fifth innings, but Prystajko kept cruising in the circle.

Prystajko finished the day with five no-hit innings, striking out seven and walking two.

In the top of the sixth, the Card poured in four more runs. Kern hit a two-run homer to make it a seven-run lead. The 228-foot shot was her 18th of her career, and 44th of her career, bringing her career run total to 169 to take sole possession of the sixth-most in program history.

After Jones singled and Chan reached on an error, Berry doubled to bring them both in and make it 9-0. Berry finished the day 2-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles, giving her 42 on the season and 140 in her career.

Anna Brewer entered the game in the sixth, giving up the first hit of the game with one out in the inning. The freshman rebounded with back-to-back outs to close the game out.

Stanford and California close the series tomorrow, with first pitch scheduled for 12:00 p.m. PT. The game will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra, and tickets are still available at Tickets.GoStanford.com.
