Second Place Finish at ICSA Open Team Race National Championship

Cardinal goes 17-8 at 16-team regatta

NEW ORLEANS – The Cardinal kicked off national championship competition this weekend with a second-place finish at the ICSA Open Team Race National Championship.

“We didn’t sail well enough to win. Finishing runner-up is an accomplishment, though it likely won’t feel that way to our team," said head coach Chris Klevan. "I believe we can learn from this to grow into the team we strive to be in the future. But for now, our focus shifts to the women’s team race championships tomorrow.”

Stanford went 17-8 at the 16-team regatta, securing the program’s best finish in the competition since 2023.

Reade Decker, Callie Hammond, Vanessa Lahrkamp, Alice Schmid, Thomas Sitzmann and Abby Baird competed for the Card, who finished with a 2-1 record over the eventual champion Harvard Crimson.

Stanford gets right back to competing today, heading to the ICSA Women’s Team Race National Championship. The Card enters the competition as the two-time defending champs.
