NCAA Tournament Begins in Malibu

Cardinal will face BYU in first round on Friday at 10 a.m. PT

STANFORD, Calif. – Making its 44th NCAA Tournament appearance, Stanford women’s tennis will begin it's push for its 21st title on Friday at 10 a.m. PT against BYU on Pepperdine’s campus.

The most decorated program in college history and the winningest program on The Farm, Stanford has won 20 of the possible 43 NCAA championships. Stanford owns a 171-24 all-time record in the postseason since the NCAA Tournament went to its present format in 1982. The Cardinal has won 21 national titles overall in school history, also claiming the 1978 AIAW crown. Stanford has reached the NCAA quarterfinals 39 times in 43 NCAA Tournaments.

The Cardinal opens on the road for the first two rounds for the third time since the NCAA adopted its present format in 1999 (also 2025 and 2021). Stanford (13-10) will face Big 12 Tournament quarterfinalists, No. 36 BYU (19-8). The winner of that match will face the winner of No. 11 Pepperdine (18-4) and No. 50 UC Santa Barbara (17-8) on Saturday, May 2. The host Waves are the tournament’s No. 11 seed.

First- and second-round competition features four teams playing in a single-elimination format. The winner of each site advances to super-regional competition May 8 or 9. Each super-regional site will feature two teams playing a single-elimination format. The super-regional winners advance to the Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia, where the eight teams will compete for the national championship May 14-17.

No. 29 Stanford enters the tournament with a 13-10 overall record, including a 7-5 mark in the ACC. The Cardinal picked up resume wins over No. 23 Cal and No. 25 SMU in the final two weeks of competition before NCAAs.
