Stanford posts its best team score of the season in second-place effort at MPSF Championships

BERKELEY, Calif. - No. 3 Stanford men's gymnastics posted a season-best team score of 327.200 but fell short in its pursuit of a conference title, finishing second in the MPSF Championships on Saturday afternoon.

Top-ranked Oklahoma claimed the conference crown for the second consecutive season, scoring 332.100. California finished third with 317.450, while Air Force rounded out the field with a score of 303.800.

Stanford earned a pair of individual conference champions in Asher Hong and Cooper Kim, as six different gymnasts finished on the podium following the meet.

Hong, the MPSF Gymnast of the Year, led the field on still rings with a season-best 14.550 routine, winning the conference title in the event for the third consecutive year. Now a five-time conference champion in his career, Hong added a third-place effort on parallel bars (14.250) and a fourth-place vault routine (14.000).

Kim claimed his first career conference crown with a 14.400 routine on floor exercise, a career-best for the sophomore. He keeps the floor title on The Farm for the second-straight year, following up Taylor Burkhart's title-winning performance (14.350) from a season ago.

MPSF Specialist of the Year Nick Kuebler collected a pair of podium finishes on the afternoon, turning in the second-place score on still rings with a 14.150, and adding a third-place 14.200 performance on floor exercise.

A 14.300 from David Shamah was good enough for second on parallel bars, while Jun Iwai finished runner-up on high bar with a 14.150. Reece Landsperger recorded a 13.900 routine on still rings, completing the Cardinal podium sweep in the event.

Stanford will look to turn the tide at the NCAA Championships later this month, heading to Champaign, Ill., to compete for its 11th national title in program history on April 17-18.
