Men’s Basketball Signs Maurer

Maurer transfers to the Cardinal from Seattle University

STANFORD, Calif. – Adding a versatile big man as a transfer from Seattle University, Stanford men’s basketball has announced the signing of Austin Maurer. Maurer arrives at Stanford as a junior in 2026-27.

“We are thrilled to welcome Austin; he is a great addition to our program. He is cultural fit and addresses specific needs we have for our basketball team,” said Kyle Smith, the Anne and Tony Joseph Director of Men’s Basketball. “Austin gives us an experienced big man who is emerging as a floor spacing option. He is a late bloomer physically who is coming into his own, and he provides a presence on the glass and rim protection as well. We are hoping Cardinal hoop fans will see glimpses of Curtis Borchardt in him.”

A 7-footer from Medford, Oregon, Maurer appeared in 35 games last season with Seattle, including 25 starts, where he averaged 7.2 points and 4.7 rebounds per game while shooting 52.2 percent from the floor. He scored a career-high 19 points against Washington, while scoring in double figures 10 times, and he added his first-career double-double against UT San Antonio. Maurer was a CSC Academic All-District honoree in 2026.

“Austin has performed well against the highest levels in his short career, and is coming from the nation’s seventh best league,” continued Smith. “He was an integral part of the 21st ranked defense in the country at Seattle U.  Austin comes from an athletic family with deep roots to the NFL and the Pac12, as Austin’s grandfather played in NFL, dad starred in football at Oregon State, and his mom excelled in volleyball at Oregon State.”

Prior to Maurer’s arrive at Seattle he spent one season at Grand Canyon as a freshman, where he appeared in 20 games off the Lopes’ bench.

Maurer attended Cascade Christian High School in Medford, where he was a three-time class 3A state champion and two-time Oregon 3A Player of the Year and all-state honoree. He was named Oregon’s Gatorade Player of the Year in 2024 after averaging 28.7 points, 12.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.5 steals and 3.4 blocks per game as a senior.

The first transfer addition of the offseason for Stanford, Maurer becomes the sixth newcomer in Stanford’s class of 2026 joining incoming freshmen Drew Anderson, Elias Obenyah, Aziz Olajuwon, Julius Price and Isaiah Rogers.
