Cardinal Charges into ACC Championships

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford Track & Field heads to Louisville, Ky., to compete in the ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, held Thursday through Saturday at Owsley B. Frazier Cardinal Park.

The ACC Championships will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra throughout all three days of competition. Fans can also follow along to live results on FlashResults.com.

At the ACC Indoor Championships earlier this season, the Cardinal produced a pair of conference champions in Juliette Whittaker (800 meters) and Alyssa Jones (high jump), highlighting a group of five individuals and one relay squad that earned All-ACC honors.

Following the meet, Jones was awarded ACC Women's Field MVP for the second consecutive season, becoming just the fifth woman in conference history to win the award multiple times.

This weekend marks the sixth conference outdoor championship meet for Stanford under the seventh-year Franklin P. Johnson Director of Track and Field J.J. Clark, and his staff.

The Stanford men have won 10 conference outdoor championships, the most recent in 2002 in the Pac-10. The Cardinal women have won three conference outdoor championships, the most recent in 2005 in the Pac-10.

This weekend's meet will also be the final qualifying opportunity for the NCAA West Prelims, which take the top 48 in each individual event (and 24 in relays) and serve as the qualifying meet for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

The NCAA West Prelims will be held in Fayetteville, Ark., on May 27-30, ahead of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 10-13.
