STANFORD, Calif. — Scores were low across the board during the second round of the 2026 NCAA Stanford Regional. Tuesday’s round at Stanford Golf Course was near record-breaking in certain aspects, and record-breaking in others, with top-ranked Stanford women’s golf shattering its own single-round scoring performance on its home course.
The Cardinal shot 17-under as a team, posting a 267 on Tuesday afternoon, breaking the previous scoring record by three strokes, which Stanford set in the fall during the Stanford Intercollegiate. It was just one of several strong showings from the field, helping put Stanford clear of No. 11 Pepperdine by 19 strokes for second place. Oregon State continues to hold steady in third at 4-under, the last team under par. The Cardinal is 30 strokes ahead of the projected cut to qualify for the NCAA Championship.
How does a team shoot 17-under in a round? It requires the whole lineup putting themselves in contention for a win, and that’s virtually the case for the Cardinal, with four of its five in the top six. At the end of play on Tuesday, Paula Martín Sampedro is in third, Andrea Revuelta is tied for fourth, and Kelly Xu and Meja Örtengren are tied for sixth. All are within four strokes of the overall lead.
Stanford’s best round of the day came from Revuelta, who was the team’s dropped score on Monday. She went from par to 6-under, shooting a 65, the best round of her collegiate career. Her scorecard was clean, with most of her damage coming on the back nine. Revuelta knocked down four birdies on the backside of the course, including consecutive birdies on 11 and 12. That moved her 12 spots up the leaderboard to put her in contention for a second consecutive regional win after taking home medalist honors at the 2025 NCAA Norman Regional.
Martín Sampedro also recorded a clean scorecard on Tuesday, finishing with a 5-under 66. It was a more consistent round than her first round on Monday, which included a double bogey. She had two bogeys on the front nine and three more on the back nine, also recording birdies on 11 and 12 like Revuelta. This is the fourth tournament this season where Martín Sampedro has opened with the first two rounds in the 60s. Her last seven rounds overall have all been sub-70.
Two other Card are at 5-under after 36 holes: Xu and Örtengren. Xu had the better round of the two, shooting a 4-under 67. She struggled at the turn, with bogeys on holes 9 and 10, but had six birdies around those two squares on the scorecard. Twice, Xu had consecutive birdies: holes 6 and 7, and holes 14 and 15. Örtengren remains in the running for medalist honors after going 3-under on the front nine, finishing the day with a 69.
The final round of the 2026 NCAA Stanford Regional begins at 8 a.m. on Wednesday morning, with the Cardinal teeing off first on the first tee. The top five teams will advance to the NCAA Championship, which begins on May 22.
