COLUMBUS, Ohio — For the fourth time in the last five years, Stanford men’s golf is heading back to the NCAA Men’s Golf Championships as the Cardinal wrapped up competition at the Columbus Regional on Wednesday. Stanford finished the regional in second place while three golfers placed inside the top 20.
Stanford joins Florida, Memphis, Arizona State and Florida State as the five advancing teams from the Columbus Regional. Long Beach State’s Steen Zeman advances to the NCAA Championships as the lowest-scoring golfer from a non-advancing team.
Stanford’s qualification to the 2026 NCAA Championship Final 30 is the 17th under Knowles Family Director of Men’s Golf Conrad Ray.
Leading the way for Stanford, Jay Leng and Ethan Gao both pitched in 2-over efforts to keep the Cardinal in contention after a lengthy weather delay halted the beginning of the round. Leng, who finished the tournament at 6-over, grabbed three birdies on the day for his second-best round of the tournament. The sophomore grabbed two birdies on the weather-affected course on the front nine before ending the afternoon with a birdie on hole 16 en route to par on his final two holes to place in a tie for 11th overall and earn his seventh top 20 finish of the season.
Gao, meanwhile, tied his round from yesterday with a three-birdie 73 card on Wednesday. The junior snatched his first birdie of the day on hole four before grabbing two more on the back-nine as he shot even-par along the back stretch. Gao ended his day with a bogey on his final hole of the day, but his 73 card was enough to keep Stanford above the cut as he ended the tournament at 7-over and in a tie for 17th place for his second top 20 placement of the campaign.
Edan Cui shot well on Wednesday, earning a bounce-back round with two birdies to end the tournament. Having shot a 73 on Monday, the freshman turned in an equally impressive 74 on Wednesday with birdies on holes nine and twelve. Cui did well to negate some late round trouble as his two birdies kept him inside the top 50 as he ended his first NCAA Regional tied for 45th overall.
Nathan Wang slotted in fourth for the Cardinal on Wednesday as the senior turned in a 4-over, 75 card that included two birdies. Starting on the first hole, Wang earned his first birdie of the afternoon on hole six before entering the turn at 1-over. Following some trouble along the back-nine, Wang did well to counter the tough course conditions with his final birdie coming on hole 17 to end tied for 11th place as he earned his sixth top 20 placement of the season.
Dean Greyserman served as the reserve score on Wednesday as the senior rattled off two birdies en route to a 6-over, 77 card. Greyserman snatched birdies on holes four and twelve as he ended the tournament at 12-over and tied 36th overall.
The Cardinal is back in action in just over a week in Carlsbad, Calif., taking part in the NCAA Men’s Golf Championships held at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa from May 29 through June 3. Stanford begins its quest for the NCAA Title with first round stroke play on May 29.
