STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford’s Finn Lorgen was named as the Mountain Pacific Sport Federation Men’s Rowing Freshman of the Year on Thursday.
Lorgen has made a huge impact on the Cardinal varsity eight boat that is ranked No. 5 by the IRCA. He has rowed in the six and four seats of the varsity eight for the entirety of his first year and the Cardinal was 6-3 in the regular season with Lorgen in the lineup, which included wins over nationally-ranked Yale, Penn, Columbia, Northeastern, Oregon State, and Wisconsin. He’s well under 6:00 for 2K on the Concept2 rowing machine and was the second-best starboard athlete on the team in its on-the-water evaluations.
It’s Stanford’s second consecutive MPSF Freshman of the Year award. Elliott Donovan-Davies took home last season’s honor.
Stanford also had two All-MPSF selections in Donovan-Davies and Tom Corbett. This is the first all-conference honor for each.
The duo has been in the stroke or No. 7 seats for all 11 races this season for a varsity eight boat that placed third at the MPSF Championship Sunday.
