GOLD RIVER, Calif. – The Stanford men’s rowing team competes at the IRA National Championship Regatta Friday through Sunday at Lake Natoma.

The Cardinal reached the B final last year on the way finishing ninth among the varsity eights. Stanford will seek to improve upon that performance and perhaps reach its first Grand Final since 2021.

Stanford opens Friday in Heat 4 of the 1V8+. From lanes 1 through 6, the field is No. 4 Princeton, No. 5 Stanford, No. 12 Syracuse, No. 13 Cornell, No. 20 La Salle, and No. 21 Navy. The top three advance to the AB semifinals and the rest move to the CD semis. Race time is 8:40 a.m. PT.

The 1V8+ Grand Final – the premier race of the regatta – is Sunday at 12:04 p.m. PT.

In 2V8+, Stanford races Friday in Heat 1 at 9:04 a.m. PT. The field, from lanes 1 through 5, is Washington, Dartmouth, Stanford, Drexel and Columbia.

The Cardinal will race a 3V8+ at the IRA National Championship for the first time since 2019. Stanford is in Heat 2 at 9:44 a.m. PT. From lanes 1 through 5, the field is Washington, Dartmouth, Stanford, Drexel and Georgetown.

In the latest IRCA/IRA Coaches Poll, Stanford is No. 5 in the 1V8+, No. 9 in the 2V8+ and No. 10 in the 3V8+. Additionally, the most recent rankings also include a Ten Eyck Team Points poll in which the Cardinal slots in at No. 8. Stanford hasn’t been in the top 10 for the Ten Eyck Trophy since 2009 when it was fifth.

Stanford has competed at the IRA Championships since 1912 and has 10 top-six finishes all-time in the varsity eight. The team’s best finish is second, in 1915.
