Men's Golf is NCAA Bound

Cardinal secures No. 3 seed in Columbus Regional to extend NCAA streak to 27 years

STANFORD, Calif. — Stanford men’s golf is back in the postseason having been selected as the No. 3 seed in the Columbus Regional of the NCAA DI Men’s Golf Championships as announced by the NCAA on Wednesday. 

Stanford heads Columbus, Ohio from May 18-20 as part of the first phase of the NCAA Tournament. Six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted with thirteen teams and 10 individuals not on those teams competing at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals (not on those teams). The top five teams and the low individual not on those teams will advance to the finals. Team and individual championship titles will be decided at the NCAA Championships from May 29 through June 3 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.

The other five regionals take place in Athens, Ga., Bryan, Texas, Bermuda Run, N.C., Corvallis, Or., and Marana, Az.

Stanford is coming off its first-ever appearance in the ACC Championship Finals having earned the win in Stroke Play and securing the No. 1 seed into match play. Stanford, which saw freshman Edan Cui take co-medalist honors in stroke play, dispelled Duke and Florida state in match play before falling to defending ACC Champions, Virginia, 3-1 in match play finals. 

Stanford returns to the NCAA Regionals having just missed the cut at the Amherst, Va., regional a season ago, taking eighth overall at 13-over in a weather-affected tournament. Three Cardinal return from last season’s NCAA qualifying squad as Stanford looks to return to the NCAA Final in Carlsbad, Calif., for the fourth time in the last five years.
