Cardinal Closes Season at NCAA Championships

Alyssa Jones and Juliette Whittaker finish their Stanford careers with All-America honors

EUGENE, Ore. — Alyssa Jones and Juliette Whittaker wore the Cardinal uniform for the final time on Saturday evening, capping off their decorated Cardinal careers with All-America honors on the final day of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Juliette Whittaker finished ninth in the women's 800-meter final, earning Second Team All-America honors to close her career as a 10-time NCAA All-American.

Whittaker positioned herself in second through the opening lap to stay within range of Arkansas' Sanu Jallow, but was cycled out of contention down the backstretch and ultimately crossed the line at 2:00.54.

Jallow won the national title with a collegiate record 1:56.85, while also breaking the meet record set by Cardinal alum Roisin Willis (1:58.13) during her championship run last season.

Alyssa Jones collected her second First Team All-America honor of the weekend after winning the NCAA long jump title on Thursday, finishing eighth in the high jump with a season-best clearance of 1.87 meters (6-1½).

After clearing the first two heights with little trouble, Jones needed all three attempts at 1.84 meters to keep her championship hopes alive. The Homestead, Fla., native responded immediately at 1.87 meters, clearing the bar on her first attempt. Her evening came to an end at 1.90 meters, where she narrowly clipped the bar on her final attempt.

After two days of women's competition, the Cardinal finished 24th overall at the NCAA Championships with 11 points.
