NEW ORLEANS — Alyssa Jones was named a semifinalist for The Bowerman award, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) announced Wednesday afternoon.
Jones is coming off a career year for the Cardinal, culminating in her first NCAA individual title two weeks ago, when she won the long jump at the NCAA Outdoor Championships with a meet-record 7.06m (23-2) mark. Jones also added First Team All-America honors with an eighth-place finish in the high jump.
Two weeks prior, Jones posted a 2026 world-leading mark of 7.09m (23-3¼) at the NCAA DI West First Round, good for No. 2 in collegiate history. She also collected both the long jump and high jump ACC titles, earning the Most Valuable Performer Award at the ACC Championships.
Jones' indoor season was highlighted by two trips to the national podium, finishing runner-up in the long jump and third in the high jump at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
The Homestead, Fla., native also repeated as high jump champion with a 1.86m championship effort and added a runner-up finish in the long jump (6.38m), being named the ACC Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Year at the conclusion of the season.
First awarded in 2009, The Bowerman is bestowed upon collegiate track and field's top male and female athletes each year. The Bowerman advisory board, and ultimately The Bowerman voters, are instructed to consider performances from the collegiate indoor track and field and outdoor track and field seasons only.
Jones becomes the third Cardinal in as many seasons to be named a semifinalist for The Bowerman, joining Roisin Willis (2025) and Juliette Whittaker (2024).
