2025-26: Season in Review

Another top-10 NCAA finish for Cardinal with two on the podium

STANFORD, Calif. — Stanford men’s swimming and diving finished its second season in the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2025-26, earning a second-place finish at the conference championship and another top-10 finish at the NCAA Championship.

SHINING IN THE POSTSEASON

The Cardinal finished second at this year’s ACC Championships, earning four conference champions. The star was Henry McFadden, who anchored the Cardinal’s 800 free relay team that won the conference title. After taking first with Andres Dupont Cabrera, Ethan Ekk, and Jason Zhao, McFadden defended his 200 free title with a new ACC Championship record time of 1:31.05.

In his final ACC Championship appearance, Josh Zuchowski became a first-time conference champion, taking first in the 400 IM with a massive personal best of 3:38.58. Among the divers, Misha Andriyuk won his first conference title, becoming the ACC champion in platform diving.

Four weeks later, the Cardinal returned to Georgia Tech, where the ACC Championships were held, for the 2026 NCAA Championships. The week got off to a great start for the Cardinal, which shattered the school record in the 800 free relay (6:06.39), finishing as the nation runner-up, the program’s best relay finish at the NCAAs in over a decade. McFadden was at it again the next night, finishing third in the 200 free with a Stanford-record time of 1:30.13, better than his prelim time from the morning swim that also set the school record.

On the final day of competition, Stanford put one more into the finals, coming in platform diving courtesy of Andriyuk. He finished second in the trials during the afternoon, and after struggling through the first three rounds of the finals, he scored 93.50 on his fifth dive, the highest-scoring dive of the finals, helping him finish fifth overall for his second First Team All-America honors on the platform, just the third diver in program history to do so.

As a team, Stanford finished tenth overall, its fifth consecutive season with a top-10 finish at the NCAA Championships.

BEAT CAL

Senior Day was nearly perfect for Stanford, as the Cardinal took down then-No. 5 California 181-119 in the final regular season dual meet, winning all but three events on the day. Ethan Ekk began the day sweeping the long-distance events, setting the standard for what the rest of his teammates would accomplish. Daniel Li set the Stanford record in the 200 breast with a time of 1:50.79, leading to ACC Swimmer of the Week honors for the first time in his career. On the other side of Avery Aquatics Center, Gunnar Grubbs won in 1-meter diving and finished as the highest-scoring diver of the meet.

It wasn’t the only time this season the Cardinal defeated the Golden Bears. In the double dual against both California and Arizona State, Stanford pulled off its first win of the season over its cross-bay rival, with a 205-134 win. Ekk set the Stanford record in the 1000 free to earn the Cardinal’s first individual winner in the double dual, and he was followed by Jason Zhao winning in the 200 free and Gibson Holmes taking first in the 200 fly.
