Tournament begins Tuesday in Irapuato, Mexico and features the best eight teams in the Americas

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford freshman Jordyn Wheeler has been named to Canada’s roster for the FIBA U18 Women’s AmeriCup, which begins Tuesday in Irapuato, Mexico and features the best eight teams in the Americas.

Canada is in Group A with Puerto Rico (Tuesday, June 9 at 2 p.m. PT), the Dominican Republic (Wednesday, June 10 at 11:30 a.m. PT) and Venezuela (Friday, June 12 at 2 p.m. PT). All the action will be streaming live on FIBA’s YouTube channel.

The appointment is the third of Wheeler’s career. She averaged 8.4 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists in seven games at the 2024 FIBA U17 Women’s Basketball World Cup in July 2024. Wheeler was her team’s fourth leading scorer as Canada went 6-1 and won silver, its best-ever finish at the event. Canada also won silver at the 2023 FIBA U16 Americas Championship, in which she averaged 7.3 points and 3.0 rebounds in six games.

Wheeler is one of four freshmen on Stanford’s 2026-27 and one of seven newcomers overall. A four-star talent, she’s rated as the No. 89 player in the country according to ESPN's SC Next 100. She’s the third Canadian player in program history, joining Alyssa Jerome (2018-22) and Mikaela Brewer (2017-20).
